GENERAL QUESTIONS

What are play along tracks?
Play-along (or backing) tracks are pre-recorded accompaniments for jazz musicians. Our
AppTracks offer you the unique opportunity to play with a top-notch rhythm section no matter what instrument you play.

How do you create the play-along tracks?
We digitally record the tracks with live musicians in Chicago, IL USA. No midi files or synthetic sounds are used.

What does "mm" mean?
"mm" is a standard abbreviation for "metronome marking". So when a set or track is marked "mm = 100" that tells you that the tempo (speed, pulse) of that selection is 100 beats per minute.

Is it OK to use AppTracks for public performance?
Yes, you may use the tracks you purchase from us for live shows. We'd appreciate it if you'd mention that your "back-up band" was provided by PJN but you're not obligated to do so.

Is it OK to use AppTracks for recording?
Please contact us if you would like to license our tracks for use in commercial recordings.

Can I make copies of your tracks for my friends?
C'mon, you already know that's not cool. HERE'S WHY.

PURCHASING AND DOWNLOADING QUESTIONS

How do I get the app?
You can download your FREE
JazzPlayer Mobile App at the AppStore.

Wait, are you sure the app is FREE? iTunes is asking me to create an account and verify payment info!
Unfortunately, Apple is very persnickety about this. You will have to sign in to your account (or create a new one) in order to download anything from the App Store. But don't worry, JazzPlayer is absolutely FREE.

Is the app available on other mobile platforms?
Not yet. For now we're iOS only, which means you can use JazzPlayer Mobile App on your iPhone®, iPod Touch® or iPad®.

What happens when I make a purchase?
Name your own price and purchase your tracks on our AppTracks page. We will immediately send you an email with a download link. Just click the link in the email, and you can watch the progress of your download inside the app. Your AppTracks will show up in the Tracks window as soon as the download finishes.

You have up to 5 attempts over the period of 5 days to complete your download. If you have any problems just let us know and we'll send you a renewal link. Please note that you must have the app installed on your device BEFORE purchasing your backing tracks.

Is PayPal your only payment option?
No. You can use PayPal or 2Checkout. Google Wallet is no longer processing digital download purchases. Both methods are fast, safe and efficient. Please note that if you use a PayPal "echeck" it is their policy to wait for the check to clear before releasing the funds to us. It will take a few days for this to happen. Our payment systems only work if you have cookies enabled in your browser.

JAZZPLAYER AND APPTRACKS QUESTIONS

What is the
JazzPlayer app?
It's our new state-of-the-art 4-channel music player that gives you full control of the mix of your play-along tracks. Each instrument - KEYS, BASS, DRUMS and GUITAR - has a separate channel so you can adjust the volume and other parameters to your particular taste.

Is JazzPlayer a mobile app or what?
YES! This is the MOBILE version of the app. Get a FREE copy from at the AppStore. To get a FREE copy of our desktop version, go HERE.

What are the system requirements for JazzPlayer?
The app will work on any iPhone (4 or later), iPod Touch or iPad.

What kind of tracks does JazzPlayer use?
The app plays our new format called AppTracks. Clever, eh? For more info and a list of our current AppTracks catalogue, please go HERE.

Can the app play the mp3 version of PlayJazzNow's backing tracks?
Yes. If you purchase any of our play-along tracks on your mobile device, just click the "download onto your iOS device" in the email we send you. The benefit of playing your PlayJazzNow's backing tracks via your JazzPlayer app is that you can access the chord chart for whatever track you're using right inside the app. You can play ANY mp3s by using the File Sharing function in iTunes.

How do I find the chord chart for my AppTracks?
Chord charts are accessed via the small 8th note icon located at the bottom right of the player window.

What's up with those pesky pdf chart files that show up in my Tracks window?
Those files are there for your fellow musicians who use their PJN tracks on their non-mobile devices. You can just delete them. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Wait, how do I delete stuff?
Use the standard iOS technique: swipe to the left on the name of the file you want to trash and a little red "Delete" button will appear.

Is it possible to SAVE a mix as an mp3?
No, but that's an interesting idea. The app was designed to be a flexible tool for you to practice with as you see fit. Maybe you'd like to play with a trio (with either piano OR guitar), or perhaps you'd like to play with just bass and drums (ala Sonny Rollins). That's why we invented AppTracks.

How do I operate all the various JazzPlayer functions?
Each instrument (KEYS, BASS, DRUMS, GUITAR) has its own channel. You control the VOLUME of each channel and the MASTER VOLUME with the sliders. You can MUTE one or more instruments by using the MUTE (M button).

Click anywhere in the PROGRESS BAR or drag it to skip to that spot in the track. See the CHORD CHART by clicking the icon at the bottom right of the player window.
